The American champion Confident of Being 'in prime form' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

The veteran skier underwent a artificial joint installed in her right knee throughout her hiatus from competitive skiing.

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn states she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after claiming a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Racing in the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," the skier commented. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm happy with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are timely.

She boasts an Olympic gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has won over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a 69-point lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit features a total of nine races taking place before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
